Weight Training for Cyclists- DO IT!

It is really important to include weights in your training program, to increase muscle endurance and stamina. We aren’t talking heavy weights here! To maintain your lean, lithe physique so necessary for cycling, pick up light to moderate weights and do more reps.  This way you will continue to stay lean, fight bone density loss, rev up your metabolism and protect against osteoporosis. Weight training also helps alleviate any arthritis symptoms and to defend against arthritis.  I usually do 25 reps and or more. Sometimes just body weight resistance is a really good idea to take pressure off of your joints but also to keep them lubricated and flexible. Remember to stretch, stretch, stretch out those muscles after warming up and before warming down. Happy Cycling!!!
